About Us
Our Purpose
Loving God:
In Matthew 22.34-40, an religious teacher asked Jesus about the greatest commandment. Jesus responds, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your mind." Jesus tells the religious leader that the second greatest commandment is "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." As followers of Jesus, we believe everything we do is summarized in these two statements. These two commandments do not replace the Law and the Prophets, but they summarize them. How do we love God and love people?
We love God by keeping God's commands. The first four of the ten commandments emphasize our relationship with God. Our relationship with God, however, is not grounded in our ability to obey or appease God, but it is grounded in God's redeeming love for us. Because of what God has done for us, we in turn, demonstrate our love for God through obedience.
Loving people:
Similarly, we demonstrate our love for others by obeying God's instructions as it relates to human relationships. We don't lie, steal, or covet because those undermine our relationships with our neighbors. Additionally, we demonstrate our love for neighbor by caring for their needs and sharing the love of God with them. One of the ways this is accomplished is by participating with various mission partners both locally and globally.
